Hunting With My Sons

Last week I got to go hunting for pheasants and ducks with a bunch of guys, and it was an incredible day of laugher, conversation, meaningful dialogue about life and God, and just hanging out. I also got to go deer hunting with my two older sons, Shea and Trevor. My younger son, Landon, couldn’t come because of work. Now, a lot of people would think I would start talking about the game that was harvested, but that wasn’t the most significant part of either of those experiences. It was all about the relationship and the conversation. It was about getting to know one another on a deeper level.

When I was out with my sons, it was an awe-moment because once again I was struck by the fact that I could not be more proud of them. They love God, they love their wives, they love their children and they’re seeking to follow God and His plan for their lives every day.

I thank God for the influence of my wife in my children’s lives because she faithfully, before our children went to school she read scripture and prayed over them and for them. When I was in town I did it too, but she did it far more than me. That was a priority in our house for that to happen every day.

Those seeds that were planted are harvesting some incredible fruit. I thank God for the time we took to answer their questions, for how they have come to know God and how they’re moving forward with their lives because they’re putting Christ first.

I am a blessed man.

I am humbled by even what I learn from my two sons when I now ask questions of them and I just listen to what they have to say.

I had an incredible couple of days last week, and I look forward to many more this season.

Direct Connect

I came across this the other day and wanted to share it with you.

1 Timothy 2:5: For there is only one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity—the man Christ Jesus.

I’m not trying to make a political statement or anything. It just seems really simple to me. We don’t have to go to someone else. We have a direct connection to Christ the Great High Priest. The greatest authority on earth and in heaven.

I can have a relationship directly with God, with my Savior.  This is freedom to me.  And I hope to you too.

Relationships have impact on those around us

We’ve  been covering this series called The Weave at The River about relationships. It’s been pretty incredible

It’s causing me to evaluate what kind of a friend I am and what kind of people there are around me.

I’ve said this before, but it bears repeating:

The people you and I hang around with says more about us than it does those people.

Chew on that for a second.

What kind of people, what kind of friends are you surrounding yourself with? Life is an adventure and there’s no perfect day. But we need good people around us to help us navigate through it.

More than that, we need a compass zeroed in on true North: Jesus.

I want people around me, my children, my wife, my friends, our church to see that I navigate my life with Jesus.

Will you pray with me that happens? Nothing else really matters when it comes to our impact!
