Getting Into the Rhythm of Christmas

All that leads up to Christmas is special to me. I love the smell of cookies, the different scents of candles, the Christmas music, and even, the anticipation of snow (especially since I’m a ski enthusiast). I also love the series that we’re in at Venture Church called Prelude.

Prelude is a series that is looking at the Christmas carols that point to joyful living and the reason for the season: Christ. Music plays such an important role in most people’s lives and we are in one of those seasons where music is a vital, joyful, celebratory expression of our anticipation of Christmas.

Check Out the Carols for Each Week of the Prelude Series

Celebrating the “Christmas Creep”

I hear a lot of people complain about how soon stores decorate for Christmas. Seems like even Target has a Christmas aisle among the Halloween decorations and candy.

Nordstrom has made the news about their decision not to decorate for Christmas until after Thanksgiving, with signs in store saying:

“Well, we just like the idea of celebrating one holiday at a time. From our family to yours, Happy Thanksgiving.”

There’s even a radio station in Detroit already playing non-stop Christmas music.

And you know what drives me crazy about that? NOTHING!

Did that surprise you? Here’s my rant about not ranting…

Christmas music rocks to me! Not just because of the music, which is awesome, but because it reminds me of the season. It reminds me of the people I want to invite to our Christmas experience at The River on 59.

It’s an opportunity to reflect on Christ and to be a reflection of His love. We have a lot planned for Christmas – it’s going to be twisted, in a good way! The next time you get annoyed about the Christmas “creeping” into earlier in the season by decorations in the store or music on the radio… think about how you can use that “energy” to invest in people and invite.
