Lessons From Monday Night Football

If you’ve read any of my blog posts, then you know that I love the outdoors, I love to be around people, I love the energy that people bring, and I love and I appreciate sports! Monday night was one of the most incredible college football games that I have observed in a long time.

It was the Alabama vs. Georgia game.

It wasn’t great just because Alabama won (in fact I think most people were rooting for Georgia because Alabama has been so successful), but what stuck out to me is that the head coach, with his coaching staff, made an incredible move:

At the beginning of the second half, the Alabama coach pulled the starting quarterback and put in a freshman quarterback who ended up, in the last throw of the game, being a literal football hero.

It was an unbelievable, gutsy leadership call to do that. Nick Saban and his team had thought that play through and, if things weren’t going right, they had forethought to make that change. When I saw that, I said to myself, “when things aren’t going right, am I prepared to make a change?”

Do I have a back up plan and would I pull the trigger to put it into action? Because that is leadership.

The Alabama coaching staff thought it through, they had a plan, and they had the guts to do it.

I really enjoy observing people who have put in the time, the practice, and the preparation to not only have a back up plan but who have the courage to pull the trigger on it when the time comes.

Is there anything in your life that you need to pull the trigger on? Don’t hesitate if that’s the case.
