Don’t Forget Them

I’ve been reading a book lately about the homeless population in our country. An individual went out and did a lot of interviews and earned the trust of these people and was involved in their world enough that they were open and honest with him about their experiences.

It’s really interesting and it’s extremely heart wrenching.

I don’t know what it would be like to be cold a majority of the time or to have to sleep on top of a manhole cover for warmth.

Did you know if you don’t protect yourself you could get so hot and be burned by the steam coming from the manhole? There are people who have gone through that and have the scars to prove it.

I don’t know what it feels like to be so desperate and just feeling like there may never be a way out.

But Jesus tells us to get out of our comfort zone and reach out to these people without a judgmental spirit, and to just love on them.

I’m grateful that at Venture Church we team up with the Severe Weather Network and we are able to come alongside people that are at a bad place in their lives; providing food, shelter, and hopefully words of encouragement.

Let’s never forget those people who are sometimes lost and left behind.

And to all those at Venture who are actively loving on these people and caring for these people and walking alongside those who may have alcohol- or drug-related issues or who have tumultuous relationships with their families, I just say: Please continue to do what Jesus would do and what He is actively doing through us.

We are His hands and we are His feet and we need to go where Jesus would go.

If I could put my arms around every single one of them & radiate all the love & warmth they needed, I surely would. So I pray for those needs to be met through Jesus Christ with the hope that I can help.
