Blank happens

If a person were to listen to more than 15 minutes of the news and/or watch it on TV or on the internet, it’s depressing.

We have Russians trying to take over Ukraine, people protesting a shooting and creating civil unrest, there’s the ebola outbreak, we have earthquakes, hurricanes and tsunamis, there are people taking their lives, there are people hearing about cancer, people being shot and not to mention the crisis in Iraq and kids caught in the middle of a refugee crisis.

And the list goes on and on. You get the idea.

Crisis is everywhere. In fact, I know I’m treading on thin ice with some people, but ______ happens. You can  fill in the blank with what ever you want, but there’s so much bad news and many unwelcome things coming into our lives. Bad things happen to good people. Something unexpected happens. Accidents happen.

How do you keep from crawling into a hole? How do you keep your bearing if you don’t know Jesus?

I honestly don’t know, but I can understand why people drink, take drugs and get into pornography. People are looking for anything to ease the pain.

But with Christ and His word, we can navigate crisis.

James 1:2-4:  Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

That’s only possible by relying on Christ for direction, strength and provision.

1 Thessalonians 5 says, “Rejoice, pray and give thanks.” In fact, give thanks for all not some, ALL. Don’t pick and choose, but all situations.

You know what, blank happens. The reason I need Jesus is I can’t handle life if I have ot do it on my own. I’m glad God gives us hope, promises and victory over those time when ___ happens. I hope you’ll join me and realize the importance of it, rejoice, pray and give thanks always.

One last point. All of this is very clearly signs that what Jesus said would happen by at the end of the world would come to fruition. Just some thought to stimulate some thinking.

    Hi Terry,

Thank you so much for the reminder. I have accepted your Sunday challenge to “fast from FB & feast on God’s word” by reading 2 Timothy daily. I listened to the podcast and so appreciate the message you gave. You’re right I don’t make the most of every opportunity I am given. Everyone is way too busy. I have really slowed down since losing my job in 2013. Maybe it’s a mid-life crisis or finally waking up to what is really important in life – personal relationships I have taken for granted. Especially my relationship with my husband. Thanks again for all you do.

    In His Everlasting Love,
    Julie Shonts

Terry as I told you Sunday and again today, what an inspirational message Sunday. It reaffirmed my reasoning in making the River (Venture) Church part of my life. Thank you.
